Essential for car repairman: list of commonly used car repair tools

We all need tools such as jacks, hammers, wrenches, pliers, trailer ropes, etc. when servicing cars. Although we usually use it, do you really understand them? Next, let's take a look at the role of commonly used car repair tools!
1. Car repair hammer
Car repairers usually use iron hammers. There are two types of iron hammers: round head hammer and horizontal head hammer. One end of the ball-end hammer is cylindrical and the other end is round-hat-shaped. The size of the handle at the middle is relatively large. The shape of the horizontal head hammer is round and flat. The type of hammer is specified based on the mass of the hammer head itself. For example, a 0.5kg hammer indicates that the mass of the hammer head is 0.5kg. Depending on the needs of their work, car repairers are generally equipped with several types of hammers.
Pay attention to the following points when using a sledge hammer:
1. The hammer head and the handle must be firmly connected. Any hammer head and hammer handle are loose, and the hammer handle with cracks and cracks must not be used. The wedges of the hammer head and hammer handle in the mounting hole are preferably metal wedges. The length of the wedge should not be greater than 2/3 of the depth of the mounting hole.
2. In order to have a certain elasticity when hitting, the middle of the handle should be slightly narrower than the end.
3. When using a sledgehammer, it is necessary to pay attention to the front, back, left, right, and upside down. It is strictly forbidden to stand in the sledgehammer's movement range. Do not use the sledgehammer and the small hammer to fight each other.
4. The hammer head is not allowed to be quenched, and cracks and burrs are not allowed. If flash burrs are found, they should be repaired in time.
2. Auto repair wrench
Wrench is a commonly used tool for folding angled bolts and nuts. Common wrenches used in auto repair include open-end wrenches, torx wrenches, socket wrenches, adjustable wrenches, torque wrenches, pipe wrenches and special wrenches. You can buy a combination wrench set, there are various models can be replaced, convenient for different occasions.
3. Car jacks
Car jacks are placed in the car's tool box and used to lift the body when replacing spare tires. Because the body weight of different models is different, jacks with different bearing capacities are needed to match the tire change. Automobile jacks include pneumatic jacks, electric jacks, hydraulic jacks and mechanical jacks. Hydraulic and mechanical jacks are commonly used.
Pay attention to the following issues when using jacks:
1. Fix the vehicle. Before using the jack to lift the car, we must first fix the car to prevent the car from being unstable after being lifted, which will hurt people.
2. Don't forget to take safety warning measures. After stopping the vehicle, we cannot ignore the necessary safety warning measures, and place the warning triangle at a safe distance behind the vehicle.
3. Pay attention to fix the bottom of the jack. When we use jacks, we must pay attention to the ground conditions, we should try to choose the ground suitable for jack operation. If the car is on a soft ground, we can't find a firm and flat road to fix the jack. Then we can place large and hard supports under the jack, such as wooden boards, floor tiles, iron plates, etc., to help the jack be fixed on the ground.
4. Pay attention to the maximum bearing capacity of the jack. Each jack has its bearing limit, and this bearing limit will be marked on the jack's label. Before we use the jack, we must understand this maximum load and the working limit of the jack.
5. Align the support points of the vehicle chassis. There will be support points for jacks to contact at the edges of both sides of the vehicle chassis close to the wheels. The lifting part of the jack must be supported on the support point of the chassis, otherwise it is difficult to fix the vehicle, and it is easy to cause damage to the jack or even damage the chassis.
6. It is safer to put a spare tire under the car. After lifting the vehicle, let's not rush to remove the hub screws first, and safety measures are the most important thing. Before changing the spare tire, we might as well put the spare tire on the bottom of the car, in case the jack cup is in place, and the car can fall with a spare tire pad.
7. The lifting operation should be steady and slow. The jacks provided with the vehicle are not "thick and hard" goods, and their strength is only enough to support the vehicle itself. If we use too much force during the lifting operation, the jack will be easily deformed and scrapped.
Fourth, auto repair pliers
There are many types of pliers, including wire cutters, needle nose pliers, diagonal nose pliers, olecranon pliers, circlip pliers, flat nose pliers, carp pliers, pipe pliers, flat nose pliers, round nose pliers, etc. The commonly used car repairs include lithium fish pliers, needle nose pliers, clamp pliers, and hose clamps. Carp pliers hold flat or cylindrical parts by hand, and those with blades can cut metal. Needle nose pliers are used to hold parts in tight places. Be careful not to use pliers to turn bolts or nuts, crowbars or hammers.
How to use pliers:
Using pliers is operated with the right hand. With the jaws facing inward, it is convenient to control the cutting position of the jaws. Use your little finger to stretch the middle of the two jaws against the jaws and open the jaws, so that the jaws can be separated flexibly. Never use pliers as a hammer. Drop a drop of protective motor oil regularly on the polished surface and joints of the pliers to keep the pliers in good working condition and prolong the service life of the pliers.
Five, spark plug sleeve
Spark plug sleeve is a special tool for manual disassembly and assembly of spark plugs. When in use, spark plug sleeves with different heights and radial dimensions are selected according to the spark plug assembly position and spark plug hexagonal size. Generally used 8mm, 10mm, 12mm sleeves (depending on the model) to remove the engine shield, throttle and other nuts. When disassembling and assembling the spark plug, the spark plug sleeve should be set up and turned to prevent the sleeve from slipping off.
Six, car repair screwdriver
screwdrivers, also known as screwdrivers, screwdrivers, and screwdrivers, are tools used to tighten or loosen slotted screws. They are divided into a flat and a cross. A flat screwdriver is to ensure that there is twist resistance, and the cross allows the force to be distributed more evenly. Screwdrivers are divided into manual screwdrivers and electric screwdrivers according to the power source. Be careful not to use the screwdriver as a chisel or crowbar. The tip of a high-quality screwdriver is made of spring steel with relatively high hardness. A good screwdriver should be hard and not brittle.
Specifications of commonly used screwdriver models:
Star hexagon: T3, T4, T5, T6, T7, T8, T9, T10 (mobile phones with almost all hexagon screws removable)
M-shape (U-shape, fork shape): M2.6 (the most common U-shape screwdriver specification)
Y shape (triangle): Y2.0, Y3.0 (Y-type screw mobile phone, PHS, charger, etc., all-you-can-eat)
▲ type: 2.0, 2.3 (remove some triangle screws, rarely used, but spare is still necessary)
★Type: 1, 2 (Special pentagon screw mobile phone is also disassembled)
Cross: 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 3.0 (used for PSP, MP4, MP3, digital, etc.)
The word : 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 3.0 (watch series)
Hexagon: H1.5, H2.0, H2.5, H3.0, H4, etc.
Screwdrivers do not have round heads, because round heads are not twisted at all. The word is to ensure that there is a twist, and the cross can make the force more evenly distributed. According to the power source, there are manual screwdriver and electric screwdriver; according to the head or cutter head, there are a word and a cross.
